00:02:08 the center, now I have the Move button activated, I can move the entire tool.
00:02:13 So let's take a quick look again from the beginning of how we get the Transpose
00:02:17 tool working. It is a little bit strange at first but you are going to find
00:02:22 it's a really well designed control, it's actually quite interesting. So once
00:02:26 again, normally I have Draw activated and Edit activated when I'm just working
00:02:33 on the model itself. I want to get the Transpose tool, what do I do? I click on
00:02:37 Move, and I get this control right here.
00:02:40 If I want to reposition the Move tool what I can do is I can first drag out the
00:02:47 tool just by dragging on the model, since we are not in Draw mode we don't have
00:02:51 to worry about sculpting that part, we just have Move activated. I'm going to
00:02:55 hover over the center here, and then drag on it to reposition. Now what's
00:02:59 interesting is what happens when you drag on the center circle of these other
00:03:04 two parts of the Transpose tool.
00:03:06 So to reposition the tool all I have to do is just drag on part of the model
00:03:12 and right now this looks like a collar which is kind of interesting as well. If
00:03:16 I drag on one of the outer ends, I'm suddenly stretching the model itself. So
00:03:22 what's happening here? Well it might be a little bit easier to visualize what's
00:03:26 going on. If I switch from Move to Rotate and I will come back to Move in
00:03:31 second, but this makes it little bit more obvious to see how the Transpose tool works.
00:03:35 What I want to do is I want to rotate this gear so that it's more aligned with
00:03:41 his chest here. So I have rotated to a side view by holding the Shift key as I
00:03:47 drag it on a blank part of the canvas. I'm going to draw out the Transpose tool
00:03:51 again just by clicking and dragging and I'm dragging off to a blank part right
00:03:55 here. Now when I click and drag in this, I get a nice rotation there. How is
00:04:02 this working? Well, the way it works is the opposite end of the Transpose
00:04:07 handle is the pivot point. So when I drag on this using this as the pivot point
00:04:13 for the rotation.
00:04:15 If I drag on the other side, the other end is the pivot. So I'm going to press
00:04:19 Undo, I'm going to reposition this in the center here and drag and rotate or
00:04:28 drag and rotate this way. So what happens is you find that you get very, very
00:04:33 fast, especially when working with the digital tablet and I'm just going really
00:04:38 quickly here just to show you that it becomes a very intuitive tool once you
00:04:42 get used to it. So it's worth putting the practice into it. So this is Rotate
00:04:46 mode and I wanted to switch to that because it's a little bit more obvious when
00:04:49 you can see that I'm rotating on this pivot.
00:04:52 So when I'm in Move mode and I'm clicking on the center, I'm moving the entire
00:04:56 object but if I drag out here, and click right here what's happening is I'm
00:05:01 moving parts of the model and this becomes the pivot for the move. So it
00:05:06 becomes really kind of a scaling or a stretching tool. Let me demonstrate that
00:05:10 again real quick. I'm going to drag it out here, drag it out again and you can
00:05:16 see I can sort of non- proportionally scale the tool. I'm going to press Undo
00:05:21 to fix that but of course we also have the Scale mode, that's also available.
00:05:28 If I go to Scale mode and drag on this, I get a proportional scale. Let's take
00:05:34 a look at Rotate one more time here. What happens when I drag in the center
00:05:40 circle when I'm in Rotate mode? Then it rotates around the Action line. I'm
00:05:46 going to move to a top view, drag this out; it's rotating using the Action line
00:05:58 as the center of axis of rotation. So I'm rotating back to the side view. I'm
00:06:05 going to switch to Move mode, I'm going to click on here, and I'm going to
00:06:09 drag, reposition, right about there.
00:06:11 If you want to rotate it, so it's parallel to the robot's chest, I can once
00:06:17 again draw it out here, maybe reposition this handle and drag until its about
00:06:25 the rotation that I like, maybe it looks better this way. I'm going to switch
00:06:29 to Scale, drag this out, then start dragging on the central circle and quickly
00:06:38 scale it down. Switch back to Move, drag on the center, reposition like that,
00:06:46 switch back to Scale, drag out, drag in the scale. Now I realize that's a lot
00:06:54 to cover, let's center this guy. So we are going to take a closer look at using
00:06:59 Transpose and see how you can use Transpose to actually pose an actual figure.
00:07:04 That's the basics here.
00:07:06 Now we have a nice little corsage there. So I'm going to save this as
00:07:12 robot_subtools_v03. So the Transpose tool is a great way to move, scale and
00:07:22 rotate a model or a model's parts. But it's primary use is actually for posing
00:07:27 a model, such as a figure or a character, hence the name Transpose, and we are
00:07:32 going to talk about that in another movie.
